1963年，英国皇家综艺表演会上，台上表演的是当时风头正劲的 Beatles 四人组。台下除了普通观众，也着实来了些达官显贵，包括女王本人还有Margaret 公主（伊丽莎白女王的二女儿，现伊丽莎白二世的妹妹）
在刚演唱完一首温情脉脉的《Till There Was You》之后，主唱 John Lennon 语出惊人：
During the next number i need to ask for your help.......the people in the cheap seats clap your hands, and the rest of you just rattle your jewellery.
在接下来的节目里，我请大家帮个忙...（观众屏息倾听）...坐在廉价席的人们请鼓掌...（观众们尴尬地笑）...剩下的人们只要晃动你们的珠宝首饰就行了...（哄堂大笑）
然后笑声就淹没在热闹的《Twist And Shout》的乐曲声中。
仿佛听到评书中的卖艺人的开场白：“有钱的捧个钱场，没钱的捧个人场”。可惜古往今来敢在一国之君面前这么说的，就我所知的只有列农一人。赤裸裸地揭露了等级的存在，即便是女王和公主在欢庆场合与民同乐时，他还不知趣地哪壶不开提哪壶。
《阿甘正传》中也有一段列农的镜头。那已是七十年代，阿甘刚从中国乒乓外交回来，在镜头前诉说在这个神秘东方国度的见闻。旁边坐的就是列农，可阿甘这傻小子根本不知道列农是谁。
TV Host: Here he is, Forrest Gump, right here. Forrest Gump, John Lennon.
主持人：这就是，阿甘，就在这里。阿甘，这是约翰列农。
John: Welcome home.
列农：欢迎回来。
TV Host: Can you tell us, what was China like?
主持人：你能告诉我们，中国什么样？
Forrest: In the land of China. People hardly got nothin'at all.
阿甘：在中国大陆。人们几乎什么都没有。
John: No possessions?
列农：没有财产？
Forrest: And in China, they never go to church.
阿甘：在中国，他们从不去教堂。
John: No religion, too.
列农：也没有信仰。
TV Host: Wow. It's hard to imagine.
主持人：哦，这太难想象了
John: Well, it's easy if you try, Dick.
列农：嗯，这很容易只要你试试，迪克。（说完这话，列农陷入了沉思，仿佛开始了想象）
电影中的这段当然是虚构，而虚构的根据就是列农在 Beatles 解散之后的那首著名的《imagine》
